Autumn at The Quirk: A Modern Richmond Wedding

There is a specific energy in Richmond during the fall. The air gets crisp, the city’s historic architecture takes on a new glow, and the textures of the season become endlessly inspiring. As a Richmond Virginia wedding florist, we love when a couple chooses a venue that manages to be both an avant-garde art gallery and a beautifully restored piece of 1916 history.

The day began with a classic ceremony at St. James’s, followed by a reception that leaned into the playful, artistic spirit that The Quirk is known for.

Designing with the "Signature Pink"

If you know The Quirk, you know its signature pink - specifically the soft, sophisticated "Love & Happiness" hue that defines the space. Rather than shying away from it, we focused on highlighting it. We blended the hotel’s rosy tones with the rich, grounded colors of a Virginia autumn.

To achieve this, we pulled in local gold and yellow zinnias along with bright pink local dahlias and airy cosmos. The standout, however, was the Coral Charm peony with its vibrant, shifting tones acted as the perfect bridge between the venue's iconic pink and our autumnal ochres and terracottas. This approach is at the heart of our Richmond Virginia garden-inspired florals, ensuring the arrangements feel organic and architectural against the hotel’s Italian Renaissance arches.

Art in the Moment

Since the venue itself is centered around contemporary art, the couple brought in elements that felt like a natural extension of that environment. One of the highlights was having Elizabeth Graeber on-site for live portrait drawings. Watching her capture guests in real-time using watercolor and ink wash added a layer of interactive art to the evening that felt much more personal than a standard wedding favor.

The Collaboration

A day this seamless is always the result of a great team. Lane Stewart Events handled the planning with an eye for detail, while Meredith Coe was there to capture the light and the floral textures perfectly. As an event florist in Richmond, Virginia, we know that the right collaboration - from the curated rentals by Paisley & Jade to the stunning cake by Olive Major - is what makes every piece of the puzzle feel intentional.
